Newborn sessions are ideally held within the first 10 days of their life. This is when babies are generally sleepier and more co-operative, allowing us to capture those beautiful sleeping poses. After two weeks old, they are more likely to be disturbed while sleeping and are more prone to colic and baby acne may begin to flare up.
It is not uncommon for newborn sessions to last up to 3 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding, settling, and a variety of poses and set-ups. Sessions are mostly held in the comfort of our home studio, where we can create a variety of adorable looks with different props, hats, and accessories. Mom and Dad are welcome to take a photograph with their baby, but our main focus is on the newborn and we like to make sure that all the photos of the baby are done before entering into group settings. For group picture we do either skin to skin portraits or baby naked, with Mom and Dad wearing a black long-sleeve shirt.
Sessions at your home are also available, and for ideal results, we would like to have big windows and do the sessions around midday, when we have plenty of natural light.
When to book?
It is never too early to book a newborn session. Because your baby’s birth date is unpredictable, Helga will reserve a time frame for you. If you are booked in for an induction or C-section, the actual session date can be arranged in advance. If you are letting baby decide, Helga will pencil your due date in and expect a call from you as soon as baby arrives.
Investment?
On average, clients that book their newborn baby with us, spend $500-$600 on products and prints. The Newborn session fee is $300, that include a complementary Maternity session and 3-4 hours of Newborn session. Prints and Products are not induced in the session fee and can be purchased separately. You can save on sitting fees if you combine them in a Membership program. Those programs can be 4-6 different sessions throughout the first year of your child.
