I attended a beautiful home birth a while back! Summer is going so fast and I’m so busy that I don’t get to blog all my sessions as quick as I would like, and I could not overlook the fact that I have not posted any photos or the video of the birth of Baby James.
It was a magical day. Poor Carolyn was in labour for days, I kept up with her Facebook posts and waited patiently for her to call me to go. Finally the day arrived, and early in the morning I got a text, that it is time for me to head over. I was super excited as I have known this sweet little family for over 5 years now; I first met them at a dear friend’s wedding that I photographed. Carolyn was a pregnant bridesmaid then and now she was about to give birth to their third baby and first son.
When I got to the house, the sun was shining above them, with not a cloud in the sky. It was so quiet, inside and outside. Her mom was on the computer and Carolyn was upstairs trying to get some well-deserved rest between contractions. Shortly after me, the midwife had arrived from Joy Spring Midwifery Care. I never met Cathy, but I have read about her story in Birth Issues Magazine, which I’m a big fan of. She is such a sweet, soft spoken and very knowledgeable lady. No wonder they choose her to be with them throughout the pregnancy and birth.
I couldn’t believe that Carolyn was so much in control with her pain. She kept apologizing to me, that she had to call me and I have to be there for “that long”. Which was not long at all, nor was it boring or anything like that. Finally, the contractions picked up yet she was still hesitant to get into the tub. I had to tell her to get in, and advise that it would be easier for her (which had been my own experience with the birth of my son). Finally, with a big smile (after a surge), she hopped into the tub and not even 30 minutes later she pushed her baby out. We were standing there with her Mom, amazed at the control and capability she had displayed while delivering the sweet baby. There he was, all sleepy and calm, baby James George, pink and wrinkly, covered with vernix, a new life begun on earth.
With further ado, allow me to introduce to you this beautiful child:
