March 8: International Woman’s Day. One of my favorite holidays in Hungary, back home the women would get flowers and the men are extra nice to us. This year, when that day rolled around, I received a call the morning from Jenna that she is in labour. I was super happy; I got dressed and got myself ready to head out to Lucina Birth Center where she was going to give birth. I live very close to the center, so I was in no hurry.
I waited for her to let me know when to go, and thank goodness that I did not have to wait long. By 10am I was at the center. It was very calm and quiet there. Jenna was already in the tub, riding through her contractions. Being a Midwife herself, she kept everything nicely under control.
I quickly bonded with her Mom and her Midwife Mary from Meadowlark Midwifery, took some shots, and waited for the little surprise to be born. Things were really picking up in the afternoon, and Jenna started to push. I was amazed by how a first time mom could be so much in control and so quiet.
While we were waiting for the baby to emerge and finally see what the gender was, we were guessing and hoping for a girl. There were six women in the room, on International Woman’s Day – the baby had to be a girl, and behold she came at 2:31 in the afternoon, happy and healthy as can be.
Little Miss Emerson will always be close to my heart. Thank you for letting me be a part of your awesome journey.
Love, Helga
